Project overview

A documentary aimed at covering a live audience cooking show, where contestants must compete against each other to create the tastiest dish over live fire.

project process

This project involved an intensive three-day production covering the British Live Fire cooking competition, requiring continuous filming to capture the full scale, energy, and narrative of the event. Working as part of a multi-camera crew, we documented every aspect of the competition—from live cooking action and contestant interviews to B-roll, drone footage, and live audio capture—while adapting to constantly changing weather conditions. Filming presented a unique challenge: balancing unobtrusive coverage with the need to capture intimate, detailed moments. As chefs cooked live on stage, we had to remain agile and aware, ensuring we didn’t interfere with their process while still documenting the precision, textures, and craftsmanship of each dish as it came to life. The post-production process was equally demanding and story-driven. Editing is widely considered both a technical and creative discipline that shapes narrative, pacing, and emotional impact, and this project required a deep engagement with that process. We began by transcribing interviews and constructing a structured narrative document, carefully positioning key moments to drive the story forward. From there, we worked through hundreds of hours of footage to select the strongest visuals, building a cohesive and engaging timeline. The edit was further developed through music selection to match the tone of the competition, alongside graphics, colour grading, and detailed audio refinement. Multiple rounds of revisions ensured the final piece aligned closely with the client’s vision, delivering a polished and compelling film that captured both the intensity of live competition and the personalities behind it. This project highlights our ability to manage large-scale productions, complex storytelling, and high-volume editing workflows, delivering a final product that is both visually dynamic and narratively cohesive.
