Project overview

A real time playback of footage capturing the ideal angles of the rowers in order to show how their form can be improved in real time.

project process

This project focused on capturing high-quality training footage for competitive rowing crews, with the aim of improving technique, synchronisation, and overall performance. Filmed on the River Great Ouse in Ely, the location provided an ideal environment due to its uninterrupted 5km straight stretch, allowing for consistent and controlled filming conditions. Using drone technology, I recorded the rowers from four distinct angles, enabling a comprehensive visual breakdown of their form and timing. The multi-angle approach was designed specifically to support detailed post-session analysis by both athletes and coaches. Each filming session lasted approximately two hours, after which we returned to base to review the footage immediately. By connecting the footage to a larger display, the crew and coach were able to analyse performance in real time, identifying areas for improvement while the session was still fresh. This process was repeated across two separate groups, ensuring consistent feedback and development. Following the sessions, I produced a quick multi-angle edit combining the key footage, which was provided to the coach for further review. In addition, I created a short highlight reel tailored for individual rowers, giving them dynamic, shareable content for their personal social media platforms. This project demonstrates our ability to combine technical filming, efficient workflow, and purposeful editing to deliver content that is both analytically valuable and visually engaging—balancing performance insight with creative storytelling.
